Larry "DOC" Dixon was the 8th inductee into the 2019 Midvale Speedway Hall of Fame. He started racing in 1960 in a 1958 Chevy powered by a 348 C.I. engine. "Doc" raced all across the country at many race tracks, including Midvale. He was also a multiple time Champion in the Pro NHRA and IHRA. The highlight of his career is when he won the 1974 NHRA World Championship and in 1987 when he finished as the runner-up NHRA Competition World Champion. He also took home the '87 NHRA Division III Championship and he also won the Sportsman of The Year and a special "Winners" Person of The Year, having won more races than the World Champion. He competed primarily at Dragway 42 and Quaker City. "Doc" raced for Knafel Pontiac in the early '70's, where he would take two cars to every track he went to. The owner of the track got to pick the car and the driver of one, and "Doc" would race the other. He won almost every time, no matter which car he drove or who competed against him. This car duo was called "The Tin Indian Racing Team". His best seasons at Midvale were in the early 1980's.
