About the Gremlin X
AMC designer Dick Teague created the Gremlin by shortening the wheelbase of the compact Hornet, launching it in 1970 as "America's first subcompact car." The sportier Gremlin X package, with its signature side stripe, arrived in 1972 and remained part of the lineup through the 1974 model year shown here.
