About the C-130 Hercules
First flown in 1954, the C-130 was designed by Lockheed for rugged, short-field tactical airlift and has since been built in dozens of variants for troop and cargo transport, aerial refueling, gunship and special-operations roles. The E and H models, workhorses of the Cold War and Vietnam eras, remain in service with numerous air forces alongside the newer C-130J.
