The F/A-18C Hornet is a versatile carrier-capable multirole fighter aircraft used by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Developed by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) in the 1980s the F/A-18C was designed to perform both air-to-air and air-to-ground combat missions. Powered by two General Electric F404 engines it has a top speed of over Mach 1.8 and a combat radius of approximately 400 nautical miles. The aircraft's advanced avionics and weapons systems allow it to carry a wide array of missiles bombs and rockets. It is equipped with a M61 Vulcan cannon for close-range combat. The F/A-18C is highly maneuverable and can operate from small aircraft carriers making it an essential asset in naval operations. It has seen action in numerous conflicts including the Gulf War and the War on Terror and remains a backbone of U.S. carrier air wings.
