About the H-34
Developed from Sikorsky's HSS-1 Seabat antisubmarine helicopter, the HUS-1 Seahorse entered U.S. Marine Corps service in 1957 as a tactical transport, capable of carrying 16 fully equipped troops or about 1,300 kg of cargo. Powered by a Wright R-1820 Cyclone piston engine, it reached a top speed of around 200 km/h. The U.S. Army flew an armed close-support version designated H-34 in Southeast Asia, fitted with 7.62mm M60 machine guns, while the French Army fielded a more heavily armed variant during the Algerian War with three 12.7mm Browning machine guns and a 20mm MG151 cannon.
