About the M24 Chaffee
Developed by Cadillac beginning in 1943 to replace the underarmed M5 Stuart, the M24 entered production in April 1944 and was named for General Adna R. Chaffee, a founding figure of the U.S. Armored Force. Armed with a 75mm M6 gun and powered by twin Cadillac engines producing 220 hp, it reached a top speed of about 35 mph. Roughly 4,731 were built, and the type remained in U.S. Army service into the early 1950s.
