The MiG-17F Fresco C is a Soviet-designed subsonic jet fighter introduced in the early 1950s as an improved version of the MiG-17 series. It features a more powerful engine and enhanced aerodynamics allowing it to reach speeds of up to Mach 0.93 and improved maneuverability at high speeds. The F variant is equipped with upgraded avionics and a radar-ranging gunsight enhancing its air-to-air combat capabilities. Armed with three 23mm cannons and capable of carrying rockets and bombs the MiG-17F was effective in both dogfighting and ground-attack roles. Widely exported and produced under license including as the Chinese J-5 it served in numerous conflicts during the Cold War and remains an iconic symbol of early jet-age fighter design.
