The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 Foxbat was a high-speed Soviet interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft developed during the Cold War to counter advanced American bombers and spy planes. Designed by Mikoyan-Gurevich the MiG-25 entered service in the late 1960s and shocked Western analysts with its tremendous speed and altitude performance. Powered by two massive turbojet engines the Foxbat could exceed Mach 2.8 and operate at extremely high altitudes making it one of the fastest military aircraft ever built. Constructed largely from stainless steel to withstand intense heat it carried powerful radar systems and long-range missiles for interceptor duties. The MiG-25 also excelled in reconnaissance missions gathering intelligence over hostile territory. Though less maneuverable than modern fighters its speed and climb rate made it a formidable aircraft throughout decades of service worldwide.
