About the Zulu Wars
Zulu forces of the era were organized into regiments called amabutho, trained in endurance and close combat, and typically armed with the short stabbing spear known as the iklwa alongside cowhide shields. They used coordinated formations such as the "horns of the buffalo" to encircle opponents, and achieved a notable victory over British forces at the Battle of Isandlwana in 1879 before the kingdom was ultimately defeated.
