About the Book
At the outbreak of World War II, the Marine nationale was the most powerful navy in continental Europe, but the fall of France in 1940 split the fleet between Vichy and Free French loyalties. The book covers French naval operations alongside Britain in 1939-40, the fleet's role in Indochina and against German commerce raiders in the Atlantic, and its clash with the Allies during Operation Torch, before the Vichy fleet was scuttled at Toulon in 1942.
