About the Tiger I

Design work on what became the Tiger I began in 1941, with Henschel building the armored chassis and Krupp supplying the turret and armor plate. Armed with an 8.8cm KwK 36 L/56 gun and two MG34 machine guns, and weighing roughly 54 tons combat-loaded, the Tiger I entered service in 1942. Henschel completed 1,347 of the tanks before production ended in 1944.
