About the Supermarine Spitfire
Designed by R. J. Mitchell and built by Supermarine, the Spitfire became a symbol of British resistance during the Battle of Britain. Powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine, it served in interception, reconnaissance and ground-attack roles, and more than 20,000 were built in numerous variants throughout the war.
