The MGR-3 Little John was a lightweight mobile tactical surface-to-surface missile developed by the U.S. Army during the Cold War. Designed for rapid deployment with airborne and ground forces it provided short-range nuclear firepower in battlefield conditions. The missile was solid-fueled spin-stabilized and could be launched from a simple collapsible platform. With a range of approximately 10 to 15 miles it carried a W45 nuclear warhead. Compact and transportable by helicopter or truck the Little John offered flexible fire support in forward areas. Although retired in the late 1960s it demonstrated early concepts of mobility and tactical nuclear deterrence.
