Type B1 Submarine I-19 1/275 Kit
I-19 was a Japanese Type B1 submarine that served during World War II and became famous for one of the most remarkable torpedo attacks of the Pacific War. Commissioned in 1941 I-19 was designed for long-range operations and could carry a reconnaissance aircraft in a watertight hangar. On September 15 1942 while operating near Guadalcanal I-19 launched a spread of six torpedoes at the American aircraft carrier USS Wasp. Three torpedoes struck and sank Wasp while another damaged the destroyer USS O'Brien. The remaining torpedoes continued across the ocean and struck the battleship USS North Carolina causing serious damage. I-19 continued patrols throughout the war until it was sunk by the American destroyer USS Radford on November 25 1943 with all hands lost.
