About USAAF Bomber Crews
Aboard aircraft such as the B-17 Flying Fortress and B-24 Liberator, U.S. Army Air Forces bomber crews were made up of specialized roles including pilot, co-pilot, navigator, bombardier, radio operator, engineer and gunners. Flying long, high-altitude missions over Europe and the Pacific under threat from enemy fighters, anti-aircraft fire and extreme cold, these crews played a central role in Allied strategic bombing campaigns.
